Coronavirus Update – 21st April 2020

Coronavirus Nudgee Golf Club Update 12 - Golf Course Open!

The Board would like to thank you all for your patience while we have worked through logistically, how we return to golf. The measured response over the past 3 weeks has ensured that our stood down staff are re-employed and rosters are set. Importantly, the Board and management have used this time to make sure we are working and exercising in the safest environment possible which has been critical in getting to this point.

As advised on Saturday 18th April, the course will reopen at 6am on Wednesday 22nd April. We will have social play only on Wednesday and Thursday, before competition golf is available on Friday. Timesheets are now open. We expect this to be the first phase of a return to golf, with the driving range, club provided carts and visitor golf to follow. We will continue to review the situation.

There will be limited spots due to social distancing requirements. We ask members to play mid-week where possible. Starting on Friday 24th April, there will be a single stableford competition available every day. We will review player accessibility over the coming weeks.

A breach of these rules will be treated extremely seriously by the Board. Queensland Police are visiting Golf Clubs in Brisbane to ensure social distancing requirements are being met and that liquor licensing law is adhered to. Golfing restrictions could again be in place,  should the Chief Health Officer decide that golfers are not abiding by community standards. It is a privilege that our sport can continue, when many other sports and activities have been excluded. We know that Nudgee members will respect that privilege.

Below are the links to the regulations set out by QLD Health

Non-essential business, activity and undertaking closure direction (5)

The Board must stress that, anyone not adhering to the attached rules will face immediate disciplinary action. We encourage all members to be advocates for the rules in place. Adherence to the safety measures will ensure the club can return to 'normal' golf as quickly as possible.

Four important notes:

  1. Members are advised they are to only pre-book for one round per weekend day. We want to ensure as many members as possible can secure a tee time. The club will be giving members the opportunity to self-regulate this, however we will review the days that members have played. Please consider others when organising your rounds. If you are a 7-day member and can play during the week, please consider the need to play on the weekend to allow the essential workers a chance to play who CANNOT play week days.
  2. No Alcohol permitted at any time and immediate action will be taken for anyone not adhering to liquor regulations
  3. Download the MiSCORE app from Google Play or the Apple App Store. Competition scoring will be administered through this app to ensure the safety of both members and staff
  4. Please bring your own sand bucket

During this time members we will have very limited contact with staff. If you have any questions, please call or email. We ask all members to be patient during these challenging times.

The Board is very aware that playing golf at this time may not be an activity that many members will feel is appropriate for them. The Club cannot guarantee every surface is virus free, nor the golfers ahead of you are not infected. There are many unknown characteristics of the virus, but it does appear to be particularly virulent to people aged over 60. It appears to have serious for people with diabetes, who are overweight, who have high blood pressure, who are immunosuppressed.

As such, if you feel that your well-being is best served by staying away from golf for the next little while, the Board supports your decision. For those members who wish to play, we hope you enjoy the opportunity to play the game we all love, albeit under highly unusual circumstances.

We have attached the guidelines for playing golf at Nudgee Golf Club for the foreseeable future. We ask every member to please read these instructions prior to booking their round of golf.

Keep washing your hands
