QLD PGA Championship
Victorian professional Cameron John has etched his name into Nudgee Golf Club history, producing a brilliant final-round charge to win the 2025 Queensland PGA Championship on the Kurrai course.
The Queensland PGA Championship plays an important role in the Australian summer of golf, sitting alongside key events such as the BMW Australian PGA Championship and the Crown Australian Open. Nudgee once again welcomed the Championship from November 20 to 23, with the Kurrai layout setting the stage for a strong field of PGA Tour of Australasia professionals and elite amateurs competing for a $250,000 prize purse. Thousands of spectators, more than a hundred volunteers, and a committed group of sponsors came together to help deliver a memorable week of golf.

Widely known for its community engagement, the club hosted a series of clinics in the lead-up to tournament play. These sessions opened the week to more than just players and spectators, giving club members, juniors, women and people of all abilities the chance to be involved. The Championship also included a Chip and Putt Challenge featuring junior golfers from Brisbane area clubs, giving younger players a chance to shine.

Once competition began, the focus shifted to four days of championship golf. The Kurrai course was in perfect condition with recent rain presenting a demanding but fair test to the field. Crowds gathered across the course each day, following groups, supporting players and enjoying the tournament atmosphere.

After almost 40 millimetres of rain inundated the course on Sunday morning, Course Superintendent Peter Culross and his team worked quickly to ensure play could start with an 11.10 am shotgun. As the day unfolded, scoring heated up and the leaderboard tightened, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
Cameron John sealed the Championship with a composed final-round 66. Early birdies and an eagle on the fifth put him in the mix, but it was his remarkable six iron from 220 metres on the par five 15th, a shot already being hailed as one of the season’s best, that became the defining moment of the week. An eagle followed and shifted the momentum, pushed him to equal 54-hole leader Zach Murray, and he backed it up with a birdie on sixteen to secure a two-shot victory at seventeen under. Amateur Billy Dowling finished second with an impressive performance, while Murray placed third. It was a final round that reflected everything the Queensland PGA Championship is known for; skill, resilience and drama when it matters most.
